Through Mindsplain, Dr. Kinsey seeks to answer your most pressing questions about psychology and mental health. Rather than focus on quick behavioral fixes, he gives patients a deeper understanding of how their minds work in order to eliminate the stigma around mental health and help them form healthier long-term habits and lead more fulfilling lives.
Mental Health Services
Dr. Kinsey works with patients — adults, children, couples, and groups — both as part of a mental health collective and through his own private practice. He has comprehensive knowledge of the causes of and treatments for anxiety, depression, psychosis, and various psychological traumas.
Dr. Kinsey also has extensive experience helping patients develop better relationships with friends and family, and with themselves. He has an intense scholarly interest in the mind, but his foremost goal is to help patients discover their own potential for honesty, courage, and curiosity, especially in the face of increasing adversity.
Dr. Michael Kinsey: Education and Experience
After receiving his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the New School for Social Research, Dr. Kinsey was a postdoctoral fellow at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York and the Williamsburg Therapy Group in Brooklyn. He has also trained in the World Trade Center Mental Health Program at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, The Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, and the Baruch College Counseling Center. In addition to running his own practice, Dr. Kinsey is currently a staff psychologist at the Williamsburg Therapy Group. He has also taught several undergraduate and graduate psychology courses. In 2010, he won the APA Excellence in Psychology Award. In 2021, Dr. Kinsey held a workshop on the topic of The Dynamics of the Narcissistic Personality in the Context of Coercive Control at America’s Conference To End Coercive Control.
Your mental health journey
In order to make complex psychological challenges more relatable, Dr. Kinsey presents them from multiple perspectives through the lenses of art and literature, myth and metaphor, symbols, linguistics, and etymology. His methods help patients come to terms with their disparate symptoms and find their hidden connections, and realize that immense growth can come from working through their suffering.
Dr. Kinsey approaches his work with a playful curiosity, and encourages patients to indulge their own in their sessions. Mental health is serious, and traumas can have far-reaching ramifications, but by delving into the mind with his patients, he reveals a playground with endless mysteries to explore. As they solve these mysteries together, patients learn to strengthen their minds and broaden their perspectives.
Consciousness and the mind arise out of the most complex entity known in the universe: the human brain. Join Dr. Kinsey as he examines all the unique pockets of the human psyche and draws fascinating connections between them. There’s no telling where the journey will take you, but you will always leave with a greater sense of self.
